Pssst....Wanna Buy A Horse?

The Wednesday edition of the Daily Racing Form is full of great information and a must buy each week for true racing fans. Inside you will find recaps of all the big races over the weekend, editorials, stats and a slew of ads that I usually gloss over.

Flipping through the pages coats your fingers with an inky residue and floods your mind with memories. The DRF has a smell as distinct as gasoline and I find it comforting. It's the same paper my Dad used to read and the same paper read by thousands of racing fans across the country. The online version or computer printouts won't do. You simply cannot replace the aesthetic of ballpoint pen to newsprint. It's as satisfying a combo as a two year old trained by Gord Huntley and ridden by David Clark.

In its pages I am reminded that Jim McAleney is leading Patrick Husbands by 17 wins in the jockey standings and that trainer Terry Jordan has a .39 win percentage. The DRF knows that Woodbine sprints are won from outside slots and longer routes are won nearest the rail. With the past performances comes a chance to remind yourself of wagers gone wrong and a second chance at getting it right this time.

Today's DRF includes a full page ad announcing a dispersal sale for Woodford Racing with speed-burner Legal Move featured in full flight.
How could this be? Is this the same horse I watched set a Woodbine track record of 1:08.1 on the notoriously slow Wednesday night track? Flipping to the Track Information page for Woodbine in the DRF not only confirmed the six furlong track record, but also reminded me that Legal Move owns the top five and a half furlong time of 1:02.3.

Thanks DRF, this is just the tip i was looking for. What do you say fellow bloggers? If the price is right...

I tried searching for the Ernie Munick version entitled, "Psst...wanna buy a horse" but it hasn't been put on Youtube yet. Hopefully Ernie gets on that soon.

Though it may be only a simple newspaper, the Form provides me with no shortage of joy, and starts more debates, than a pint of beer. Canada's Turf Authority Since 1894 and that ain't gonna change anytime soon.

There's a certain street corner in Chicago, where I hear, one can receive a similar proposition and if the price is right you can include your own horse.

What the hell, I'm in for a loonie.
