Triple Dead Heat At Woodbine!

The fifth race at Woodbine on Wednesday night finished in bizarre circumstances as three horses dead-heated for show much to this blog's approval!

The five furlong MSW was bursting at the seams with twelve two-year olds anxious to record their first win. Jim McAleney charged out of the gate on Hawkey Star going end-to-end on a breakaway to win by 5 3/4 lengths. The sharp fractions set by Hawkey Star of 21.88, 44.65 to win in 56.75 set a great pace for closers. When Costalivin crossed the wire for place, he finished just half a length in front of Bob's Ring, My Bad and Bare With Me.

Tyler Pizarro recovered from a poor start on Bob's Ring hustling the Laurie Silvera trained horse from dead last to dead heat despite still being eighth at the 3/8 pole. Emma-Jayne Wilson sat fifth until the top of the stretch on My Bad before taking aim at Corey Fraser on Bare With Me in a battle for show money. As the horses hit the finish line, announcer Dan Loiselle could only advise that there would be, "a three horse photo for show." With $50,176 in the triactor pool, more than a few punters were left holding their tickets with anticipation.

After a slight break as the officials reviewed the photo, Loiselle returned to the mic to announce, "Ladies and gentlemen, a racing rarity, a triple dead heat to show" and went on to explain that there would be an understandable delay as pari-mutuel agents sorted out the payouts. After a couple attempts, the tote board finally displayed the correct prices featuring three sets of SHOW, TRI and SUPERFECTA prices!

You can see the payouts below.

I have placed a call with the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency today and requested a copy of the photo finish which I can hopefully post here at a later date.

Oddly, the fourth race on Wednesday night featured a dead-heat for win as Chusan and Corbin's Bay hit the wire at the same time. To further stir the pot, Chusan's rowdy stretch run with Emma-Jayne Wilson caused claims of foul from Pizarro and Rob Landry on Madame Toumanova and Sweet Endeavour. When the dust settled, Chusan was disqualified and placed fourth leaving Corbin's Bay as the sole winner. The stretch run for this race would have been much better suited to a horse with a name like Hawkey Star.

Triple Dead Heat will do our best to post a photo from the fifth race later today. Stay tuned.

Fantastic! You must've been so thrilled to be there for that. I'm not much of an expert and I can't say anything intelligent about this, but let me point this out: the name "Bare With Me" sounds like the title for the sort of film you take home in a brown paper bag.

There are quite a few great horse names out there.

A great article can be found here listing all sorts of rude names!
