Moby Makes Some Noise Against Horse Slaughter

Artist and animal rights activist, Moby, recently donated the song Flying Foxes to the Southern California Thoroughbred Rescue. Details on the story were posted by Julie on the Alex Brown Racing Forum

"I reached out to the artist Moby, who some of you may know, he does really amazing soundtrack type music and most of Brego's documentaries have some of his stuff in them. He donated the song Flying Foxes to be used in this film, because Moby is A HUGE ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVIST.

I sometimes ask myself if I would actually have the stomach to do what Caroline does, go to auctions, network, raise funds, find homes, etc. while having a full time job. So, using my closet film making hobby was the best way I knew how to help out."

Racing fans should check out the Southern California Thoroughbred Rescue WebStore which features all sorts of cool racing memorabilia including photos of Stardom Bound and autographed copies of books by Laffit Pincay and Edgar Prado. All proceeds are allocated to the rescue and rehabilitation of thoroughbred ex-racehorses.

All entries have now been received for the Alex Brown YouTube contest re: Horse Slaughter. The winning video will be determined by the video with the highest total score, on May 10, at Noon eastern time. The score is based on the number of comments, multiplied by the overall rating of the video, and adding the number of page views.

The "leader" as of April 11 is video number 2 with a current score of 3415.5 Obviously the videos that were posted earlier in the contest have an advantage at this stage, but as the next month progresses it's likely that advantage will become less so. Each week over the next month Alex will update the LEADER BOARD.

The videos collectively have garnered 18,000 page views and 922 comments. As we head into racing's most publicized event of the year, the Kentucky Derby, let's make sure we use some of the media exposure to speak out on behalf of the equine athletes we love to cheer and wager upon.

Our first return starter on the Woodbine Watch List makes a quick trip back to the track. Dick Whittington jumps from his third place finish in a 5F $10K claimer up to a $20K claimer but gets added distance going 6 1/2F. An 11-1 shot last time looks in tough spot but we know from the chart that he finished strongly. Here is the official entry for Friday's fourth race.

A little bit of noise being made in the Queen's Plate Fantasy Challenge this weekend as Square Eddie takes on eleven three year-olds in the Lexington Stakes at Keeneland. The G2 event goes 1 1/16M on the near dirt and Square Eddie is the 9-5 morning line favourite. Roger Attfield's Soul of Nataka will be running in the tenth race at Keeneland taking on a group of maiden fillies.
Keino West is entered in a $72K Allowance on Saturday at Woodbine with Gerry Olguin in the saddle. Parabola worked 6F in 1:14 on Wednesday and is closer to making his first Woodbine start of the season.

Three Queen's Plate hopefuls made their debuts at Keeneland yesterday. Kellham (Melnyk Stables)finished eighth going 7F. Sam-Son Farms' Eye Of The Leopard took on Robert Harvey's D'oro Diablo in the seventh race with Edgar Prado guiding D'oro Diablo to a third place finish. Eye Of The Leopard ended up eighth, never really getting involved in the action. D'Oro Diablo, who opened up as the favourite, set quick fractions of 22.71, 45.44 and 1:09.88 before being overtaken by Big Top and Don Gato. The result has me wishing I'd added this one to my Queen's Plate stable.
