Opening day for thoroughbreds at Woodbine brought cold temperatures and strong winds, but not harsh enough to deter the brave Canadian racing fans from the track.
It was Community Day at Woodbine and the track was hopping by 11AM despite a 1PM post time. Chantal Sutherland would win the first race of 2009 aboard Flashy N Classy for trainer Anne Cameron covering 5 1/2 furlongs in 59.13. Sutherland would win two races opening day, while Patrick Husbands got off to a hot start winning the card's second and ninth races to go along with the season's first stakes race, La Voyageuse, aboard Mullins Beach.
What follows is all the action on and around the track from opening day 2009. Welcome back Woodbine patrons!
