Woodbine Wrapup: Todd Kabel Lighting up the Woodbine Tote Board

Apologies to any readers looking at Triple Dead Heat in the past few days for a lunch-time distraction. I have been hard at work penning multiple stories for three separate print publications, the results of which I hope to link to here in the near future.

As well, I have been assisting the beautiful Amy with her efforts at a local trade show for her business Smitten Kitten. If you're looking for a unique (perhaps, odd) greeting card, I highly recommend checking out the Smitten Kitten site.

Why not send a good luck card to Rachel Alexandra?

(Card by Smitten Kitten)

I was in attedance at Woodbine on Saturday for a card that included several turf races and polytrack feature, The Duchess Stakes.

On the undercard, David Garcia had the mount on the imaginatively named Prince Ooga Booga. Great name, indifferent results thus far.

My favourite race of the day was an excellent $75K MSW going 1M on the turf for F&M 3YO and Upward.

Stronach Stables sent out an entry and I was immediately smitten with Baywatch

Oakshela was looking pretty impressive as well

What a beauty - such an alert imposing presence in the paddock

Daniel David has a laugh with the railbirds

Patrick Husbands was looking pensive on Pensy

Baywatch and Oakshela throw it down...

...and Oakshela hits the wire first

The feature race was the Duchess Stakes for three year old fillies

Multiple Stakes winner Juliet's Spirit warmed up in the walking ring

The cute Carem Crescent was calm pre-race

Miguel Mena shipped in to ride She's Extreme

San Sousi gets mad props from his groom

David Clark hoped that Cosmic Queen would be out of this world!

Tyler Pizarro guides Woodsmoke to the track

Closing Speed lived up to her name for Patrick Husbands

Carem Crescent acting like she's been here before - The tote board smartly screams "Book Now"

At the wire, it's Carem Crescent with Closing Speed..err, closing for second

Eurico Rosa Da Silva was thrilled with the win

Carem Crescent was loving the post-race shower

Congratulations to the connections

If you're looking for an angle at Woodbine right now, try circling fresh horses in your prgram. Many winners lately have been cycling into form off of a layoff and the tote board has been lighting up accordingly.

As well, keep an eye on the in-form Todd Kabel who in the past week won with 10 of his 21 mounts, including a perfect 3 for 3 on Thursday and a haunting win in Sunday's Vandal Stakes aboard Ghost Fleet.

Todd Kabel is hitting at a near 50% rate

More from the week that was at Woodbine tomorrow. Thanks for your patience everyone.
