Sam-Son Farm's Prodigy Hotep Takes First Step Towards the 2010 Queen's Plate

Hotep, a full brother to 2009 Queen's Plate winner Eye of the Leopard, makes his first start of 2010 this afternoon in the tenth race at Fair Grounds. In the first race of his career, Sam-Son Farms sent out the then two-year-old colt at a distance of a mile and seventy yards. The Mark Frostad charge kept close to the pace and then dug in hard along the rail through the stretch under the guidance of jockey Rob Landry for the win.

Thank you to Calvin Carter, a pedigree analyst, and free lance writer for pointing out the entry.

The entries are listed here courtesy of Equibase. Jockey Robbie Albarado takes over aboard Hotep at odds of 8-1.

Jarrod Horak, Track Handicapper/TV Host for Harrah's Louisiana Downs, offers the following analysis:

"FG 10 (OC-50/1x, 3yo, 1mile-40yds) #6 WALKING THE BEACH (6-1) was clear in the late going as the fav in winning six furlong bow at Churchill. He’s bred all over to route and hails from a high % barn. #8 Wow Wow Wow (5-1) set a fast pace and kept on going in local maiden route wire job last time. Dangerous if he shakes loose early again. #4 Daddy Forty Nine (8-1) had rattled off four straight, and he was going away late for new trainer Amoss at 7f last time. Handles two turns. THE PLAYS: #6 to win, Superfecta 4-6-8/2-4-6-8/2-4-6-8/ALL"

A good result here for the Sam-Son Farms horse could nudge the horse ahead of Hollinger in the quest for the 2010 Queen's Plate.

Hotep will go to post at 4:52PM EST in the tenth race at Fair Grounds. Punterscan wager on the race at HorsePlayer Interactive.

Updates on other Canadian racing news will be posted here tomorrow afternoon.
