Photo Essay: Woodbine Winter Wonderland

On Sunday morning I woke up early and took my camera to the Woodbine backstretch. The weather was nice enough for March and the snow flurries added a Canadian touch to the resulting photos.

Trips through the barns of Steve Attard, Sid Attard and Ian Black as well as visits to the dirt training track and the sand ring provided plenty of photo ops. Enjoy!

Woodbine Winter Wonderland

You gotta bundle up when it's this cold...

I hope that's an electric blanket

Smiles are free...

Tiptoe through the snowflakes

My money is on the three horse

Brrrrreezing...

A special snowflake?

Four off the floor...

Admittedly, a bit of a grey day

Taking it in stride...

Turning a corner...

Post Parade

All personality...walked to the front of the stall and turned into the photo. Merci!

Salt and Pepper

It's a JUNGLE WAVE out there...

Kid Canuck was happy about Canada's gold medal in hockey, eh?

Steve Attard's Snow Patches thought the weather was perfect

Where the streets have no manes...

Here's a horse now...

No mention of sand castles...phew

This rider loves the sand ring...

But not as much as this guy...

Just a little off the sides please

Red legwarmers are SO in...

See you next weekend Woodbine!

To see much nicer photos than these, I invite all readers to check out the excellent work of Kathy Toth Photography. Her shots of Eurico Rosa da Silva, Steve Bahen and many of the Woodbine regulars are stunning.

Woodbine-based punters will want to take notice of an interesting race at Fair Grounds on Saturday. The fifth race, a 5.5F Turf MSW, includes a Eugene Melnyk Florida-bred colt by the name of Heywoods who is trained by Malcolm Pierce. In the same race, Sam-Son Farms owned Ontario-bred Forest Run, will make an appearance for trainer Neil J Howard.

It's a solid field for handicappers to pick at and could produce more than one horse worth following in 2010.
