To assist readers - and myself - in finding the likely contenders for the mile and a quarter race, I have compiled a list of Canadian-bred three year-olds and tracked their recent works and results.
Currently, my list is restricted to colts and geldings. However, GII winner Bickersons is one of several fillies who could be this year's Milwaukee Appeal or Tasty Temptation trying to take on the boys. Resentless, Jenny's So Great, Roan Inish and Sam-Son Farms Wild Strike are others that come to mind.
For the contest, readers will want to review the jockeys listed with the connections of their top ten horses and pick accoridingly. i.e If you like Hollinger, you will want to select Tyler Pizarro as one of your three jockeys.
I'm always interested in hearing your opinions on potential contenders, so if the horse you like is not on the list, please email me.

1. Hollinger
Owner: Robert Harvey and A. Wortzman - Breeder: Robert Harvey and A. Wortzman - Trainer: Roger Attfield - Jockey: Tyler Pizarro
Canada's Sovereign Award winning two-year-old is a winner of all four starts, including an impressive tilt on the turf in the Cup & Saucer that suggests the Attfield trainee has the credentials to take a shot at the multi-surface Triple Crown. (Plate on poly; Prince of Wales on dirt; Breeders on the E.P. Taylor turf)

2. Hotep
Owner: Sam-son Farms - Breeder: Sam-Son Farms - Trainer: Mark Frostad - Jockey: Robby Albarado / Rob Landry /Patrick Husbands
After an impressive run of races at the Fair Grounds for trainer Mark Frostad which saw Hotep elevated to the status of a potential Kentucky Derby contender, the Sam-Son colt would fade to an 11th place finish in the Louisiana Derby won by Mission Impazible. Hotep will be freshened in advance of a run at the Queen's Plate.

* March 22, 2010 - WIN - Giant's Tomb won a mile and forty yard event at Fair Grounds in impressive fashion. The son of Awesome Again was the odds on choice in field of five and started confidently from the gate finding a stalking position just off the rail. With the far turn approaching Patrick Husbands asked the colt for more and he responded by lengthening his strides and meeting the leader. Turning into the stretch Giant's Tomb quickly disposed of Looks Purrrfect and crossed the finish line first by two lengths in a time of 1:41.34. The colt galloped out strongly which suggests this horse will have no trouble finding the classic distance of the Queen's Plate. Click here for race video.

4. D's Wando
Owner: D's Stable, Riviera Racing Stable and Yorktech Racing Stable - Breeder: Gustav Schickedanz - Trainer: Ian Black - Jockey: Emma-Jayne Wilson
The Wando colt started his career by placing twice before storming home a winner on August 16th at Woodbine. Emma-Jayne Wilson and Ian Black have teamed up previously for Queen's Plate success and the hard fought third place finish in the Coronation Futurity suggests D's Wando is one to watch. D’s Wando is out of multiple stakes winner Silver Taler.

Multiple stakes winner Ghost Fleet knows his way to the winners circle. Ghost Fleet broke his maiden on July 19 over Waldheim and Set in Stone at 5 1/2F. Impressive wins in the Vandal over Takiddm and Mobthewarrior and the Swynford over filly Jenny's So Great put this horse on the radar. A close fourth place finish in the Coronation Futurity demonstrated an ability at longer distance as he kept the highly rated - though inexperienced at the time - Hotep a step behind.

Checked at the start of the 1M 1/16 turf event at Gulfstream, jockey Eibar Coa showed remarkable patience racing from tenth position early before circling horse five-wide turning into the stretch failing only to pass Beau Choix. The Ontario-bred was beaten only half a length and will be off to Keeneland for his next start. Click here to watch the race video.
