Trainer Roger Attfield had a formidable pair in Spice Route and Perfect Shower but Solitaire and Cool Gator had plans to make a race of it. Jockey Mike Smith would get the call on favoured Spice Route. While the Singspiel field circled the walking ring, photographers clamored on the front side of the Woodbine track as the Queen arrived with much fanfare.
