Woodbine Locals Invade Saratoga for the Lake George Stakes

The Woodbine-based invasion of Saratoga continues this evening in the Lake George Stakes as Roger Attfield, Mark Casse and Brian Lynch send four horses to post in a strong twelve-horse field that boasts three more contenders on the AE list.

The best of the Woodbine bunch may well be Lynch's Bay to Bay who captured the American 1000 Guineas at Arlington Park in May. The Sligo Bay filly has notched a pair of place finishes in the G3 Appalachian and Boiling Spring Stakes this season.

Morning line favourite Strike It Rich defeated the late-running Bay to Bay in the Boiling Springs last out which was a race with little pace. Speedy fractions should not be an issue in this event which bodes well for Bay to Bay.

Attifeld sends out No Explaining and Perfect Shirl in the Lake George. The latter entrant is a half to multiple graded winner Lady Shakespeare and put in a devastating maiden breaker on Woodbine Oaks day.

Casse will send out 30-1 shot Exclusive Love who is a Kentucky-bred Bernstein filly that likes to hit the board.

In addition to favoured Strike It Rich, the Woodbine contingent will have to deal with improving chestnut filly Caminadora. The Todd Pletcher trainee sneaks into this event at odds of 12-1 off a G3 win in the Regret Stakes where she was sent to post at 32-1. The filly gets no respect and could be a danger to this field.

Stakes winner Bay to Bay hopes to sail away in the Lake George


Edgewood Stakes winner Dynazaper will have handicappers highlighting and circling jockey Julien Leparoux and trainer Bill Mott. While another curious entrant is the German-bred Neon Light who shined brightly in three starts in Germany with two wins and a third for earnings of $113,029. Edgar Prado will reiten das pferd.

The Deputy Minister Stakes is the Wednesday night feature at Woodbine as a field of eight Ontario-bred three year-olds will battle seven furlongs on the polytrack. Bob Tiller sends out two horses in this event including the 6-5 morning line favourite Race for Gold and the neatly named Arepeatee which spells out the conditioner's initials of "RPT".

Kingarvie Stakes winner Joey's Best will try to get back on track under top jock Patrick Husbands. The Cappuccitti trainee had previously been steered by Chantal Sutherland who has the mount on Race for Gold in this event.

At odds of 15-1, Doctor Jack is an intriguing long shot in the Deputy Minister for conditioner Ian Black. The Where's The Ring gelding was stakes placed as a two-year-old in the Bull Page, Clarendon and Simcoe. Doctor Jack rallied late to claim third in the Achievement Stakes, at odds of 30-1, won by the excellent Essence Hit Man. Favoured Race for Gold was a fast-closing second in the Achievement Stakes and goes to post at 6-5.

Starting in October, there will be live live Quarter Horse Racing at Fort Erie Race Track announced a recent FE press release:

The Fort Erie Live Racing Consortium (FELRC) announced the launch of Quarter Horse Racing at the Fort Erie Race Track starting in October 2010. With the approval of its application to the Ontario Racing Commission, issued Friday, the FELRC announced the expansion of the 2010 Fort Erie meet with three additional days to introduce Quarter Horse racing to the existing 113 year old Thoroughbred racing program.
The first three Saturdays in October -- October 2nd, October 9th, and October 16th -- will see full day race cards of Quarter Horse racing at the historic border racetrack. The closing weekend for the meet -- Saturday, October 23rd and Sunday, October 24th -- will feature a mixed race card of Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing as an exciting wrap-up to the 2010 season.

"This is Year One of a three year pilot project that will see Quarter Horse racing at Fort Erie through to the 2012 racing season. We're focused on making sure that we start off right, with full cards of good racing this year. We'll spend time at the end of year to plan how a mixed Thoroughbred-Quarter Horse meet will look for 2011 and 2012," said Rick Cowan, Chief Operating Officer for the Fort Erie racetrack.

The Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) is seeking individuals who can bring knowledge, connections and ideas relevant to the different Programs, to serve on Advisory Groups and Working Groups, to provide input and advice to the Program Administrator on Program elements.

Specifically, the ORC is looking for individuals interested in participating in the following groups: STANDARDBRED IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM, THOROUGHBRED IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (TIP), QUARTER HORSE PROGRAM
