Photo Essay: Queen'splatekitten Purrfect in the Marine Stakes

The favourite for the Queen's Plate, to be held on June 26th, was identified this weekend when Queen'splatekitten captured the Marine Stakes with a purrfect ride from jockey Eurico Rosa da Silva.

QPK surges to the lead

QPK was content to stalk Silverleo and Bow Bell Reef through early fractions of 24.77 and a half in :49.72, before pouncing on the leaders turning into the stretch and pulling away for a three-length victory in a final time of 1:44.53.

“He gives you such a nice feeling,” said da Silva. “He’s a very relaxed horse. I just pressed him a little bit in the turn for him to catch up with them. He ran a very wonderful race.”

Although the final time was not spectacular - - consider that the filly Inglorious completed the La Lorgnette in a faster time of 1:44.19 - - it must be noted that QPK was barely asked by da Silva. It will now be up to the winner of the Plate Trial to try and knock Queen'splatekitten off his pedestal for the right to be the Queen's Plate favourite.
