Photo Essay: Inglorious Wins The Woodbine Oaks

Woodbine's Sunday card featured the Plate Trial and Woodbine Oaks presented by Budweiser - - which presented an early preview of the contenders for the Queen's Plate to be held on Sunday June 26th.

Inglorious was the favourite going into the Oaks and she put in a sparkling performance closing on the slow fractions of pace-setter Spooky Kitten to take the lead late under a rousing ride from Luis Contreras.

Luis Contreras celebrates his Oaks win with Inglorious

The Plate Trial showcased shippers Bowman's Causeway, Imhotep and Sensational Slam taking on Woodbine-based favourites Bear's Chill and Check Your Soul in a field that also included Strike Oil, Hippolytus, Sandy Gully and Speed Ring. Check Your Soul overcame a slow start, breaking in air, to rally to the lead at the top of the stretch before gearing down to an easy three and a quarter length victory.

Check Your Soul captured the Plate Trial with ease

It's also worth noting that despite jockeys such as Jose Lezcano, Javier Castellano,
and Edgar Prado shipping in for the big event that the local jocks won all three stakes on the day - - Husbands taking the Alywow with New Normal and Plate Trial aboard Check Your Soul; while Luis Contreras won the Oaks with Inglorious. Well done jocks!

I'll have more words on the races later this week, but for now please enjoy the following photo essay. As always, double-left-click on the image to enlarge the photo and use your 'BACK' button to return to the photo essay.
