All in all, a fun two hours on the backstretch. After working in an office all week it was nice to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Being that close to the horses and the buzz of activity makes you appreciate how much work goes into the two minutes of thrills track goers wager on each and every day. The Woodbine thoroughbred meet begins April 4th.

Hey! I like your photos! On the 2nd to the last, do you know what it means when their coat is two toned like that? There is a decent 4 year old in Japan who has that same two toned Chestnut coat. Just his legs and head. Looks very Frankenstein-y! I am have been dying to know what the phenomenon is called!
Horse has been clipped so the lighter colored hairs are the shorter ones. It is done to help them cool out quicker than they would with their winter coats.

I think the horse you're asking about has a partial body clip, meaning they shaved off part of his fur on parts of his body that sweat a lot. A lot of horse owners will do this in the winter to make cooling-down a bit easier. A thick winter coat on horses tends to hold in a lot of heat (as it is intended to do) during workouts, so cool down can be very lengthy. Clipping can help make this process a little easier. One just has to be sure to blanket the horse when he is not being used.
