I'm nodding my head and opening my wallet as I look at the morning line odds of Papa Clem (20-1), Regal Ransom (30-1), Chocolate Candy (20-1), General Quarters (20-1) and Desert Party (15-1.) Most handicappers around the blogosphere will be looking for a solid underneath play for Exactors and Triactors and the five horses listed above offer great value.

The latest edition of the Woodbine Watch List is a little sparse as I was out on a few racing related field trips over the past week. However, I did spot one particular tough-luck race featuring a slow start, a steady and traffic trouble followed by a game finish. The horse in question is Steve Asmussen's Bayland who came out of the gate last of twelve and bounced his way around the track to finish fourth. As the horses turned into the stretch, Bayland was poised under jockey Luis Contreras but suddenly veered to the rail and into traffic. Contreras gathered him up and got him running straight, but too late to win. That's a lot of wasted energy over six furlongs so hopefully a clear path will mean better results next out.
The next out stats of the Woodbine Watch List have been more miss than hit thus far as many of the candidates are pushed to a higher level in their next start. However, on April 26th, Montrose Avenue finished second in a $60K MSW. Ridden by Emma-Jayne Wilson, Montrose Avenue went off as the favourite and stalked from fourth only to be pushed very wide on the turn and outraced to the finish by a 40-1 bomb. So close to garnering a first victory for the Woodbine Watch List.

April 24th's eighth race was a goldmine for Woodbine punters when Special Executive vetoed all opponents and declared himself a winner paying $68.70. The exactor with Jazz Boy in for place was a lovely $491.20 and the dollar superfecta paid $18,163.70. Jockey Dean Deverell made a brave move mid-stretch to dive between horses and find a lane just off the rail and held off a late charging Jazz Boy (6-1) in a photo finish. With the favourite off the board, all winning bets were paying to the extreme.
