Woodbine Heating Up This Weekend!

The weekend is almost upon us and it's going to be a scorcher in Toronto, where we have decided to bypass Spring and head straight into Summer. Temperatures are predicted to reach 25 degrees Celsius on Saturday. This weekend promises the first good chance for a pint in the grandstand at Woodbine.

A beautiful weekend to hang out at the rail.

Today's racing features a couple entrants from the Woodbine Watch List

Caledon Cat will be next up on the Wooodbine Watch List racing 7F in Race 8 . This one stays at the $10K claiming level of the previous outing. The WWL note states:
"Race 10, 5F - Caledon Cat languished lazily early on contentedly tenth at the top of the stretch before pouncing at the wire to finish third behind Wild Diamond and Trevon’s Glory. An extra furlong could see this cat nip a win next time out."
Here is the official entry.

In today's first race, Queen ofthe Castle finished third at odds of 5-1. With jockey Tyler Pizarro aboard, Queen ofthe Casetle was forced very wide as the gates opened. After yet another tough beginning, Pizarro managed to get Queen ofthe Castle over to the rail and made a belated move in the stretch to finish third, never threatening the winner, Mindemoya. I'm going to give Queen ofthe Castle one more chance and hope she's a bit tougher next out.

Other entries from the Woodbine Watch List competing this weekend are: Doneraile Gem (April 25th, Race 2), Legal Move (April 25, Race 8 - Jacques Cartier Stakes)and Montrose Avenue (April 26, Race 5)

Active Duty, my Stable Star in the FREE Queen's Plate Fantasy Challenge breezed 5F in 1:00.60 at Woodbine earlier this morning.

On Sunday, the $150,000 Woodstock Stakes will feature seven colts and geldings competing over six furlongs on the poly. Congor Bay, trained by Mark Casse and ridden by Patrick Husbands, is the 5-2 morning line favourite. Reade Baker is conditioning two separate Bear Stables entrants - Bear It's True and Bearcatt. Also taking part will be Casey's On Call who last raced in the Florida Derby where he tried to take on Quality Road. The competition may not be as tough this weekend, but it's not going to be easy either. This promises to be a very fast race and a good chance to win some points in the Queen's Plate Fantasy Challenge.

Tomorrow I'm off to visit a few horses associated with the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society and will try and post photos over the weekend!

Enjoy the sunshine everyone.
