The first big race of the three year old season occurs Saturday in the six furlong Achievement Stakes. El Brujo, a beaten favourite in last year's Coronation Futurity run at a mile and an eighth, comes into the sprint as the 9-5 favourite. Bucephalus, out of Highfield Stock Farm stallion Cape Canaveral is a worthy second choice having won the Clarendon last season.
As a reminder, the Achievement Stakes is the first race to draw points in Woodbine's annual FREE Queen's Plate Fantasy Challenge. This year I will be representing Triple Dead Heat as part of the "PRO" division which includes members of the media and various Woodbine personalities. Last year, the contest was won by Elissa Blowe. There are several terrific prizes, including a grand prize of a $5,000 HPI deposit or cash voucher.
