I met the strawberry-roan charmer in April of this year at Joanne Colville's High Stakes Farm and posted a photo essay of the day. The farm specializes in caring for broodmares and prepping yearlings, but also serves as a foster farm and home for recuperating horses donated to the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society. It was immediately evident that caring for Prude came naturally to Colville and made writing the story that much easier.
Not A Prude Mugs It Up For The Camera
On the track, Not A Prude was not the type of horse that would fill trophy cabinets. He was simply a hard working horse blessed with a ton of speed who was willing to ply his trade with an abundance of energy. Prude was a consistent performer making 160 lifetime starts with a record of 24-21-22.
What set Prude apart was the fact that he was claimed some 19 times and over his career raced for 14 trainers, 38 drivers and starts on ten different racetracks. The value of the claims added up to a million dollars and that's the angle I took with the story - Million Dollar Claimer Looking For A Home.
Prude Has His Bag Packed And Ready
I'm thankful that TROT saw fit to put Not A Prude on their cover and I really do hope this handsome fella finds a loving home and a new career. There are so many wonderful stories like this going on behind the scenes at tracks everywhere and once in a while it's nice to take a step back from handicapping and politics to simply celebrate the effects of a community giving back.
