Strip Joint Superfecta and This Week's Edition of Woodbine Watch and Outrageous Odds

Friday's eighth race at Woodbine provided a potential tongue twister for track announcer Dan Loiselle when three lovely ladies and a bit of shame combined for a modest $191.95 Superfecta. Woodbine patrons had rained down a lot of money on Fanci Candi and were expecting a big performance. However, the fans were shocked when Smart Blonde danced out of the starting gate to a commanding lead. The stars began to align when Sexy Sheri pushed up at the (3/8) pole and began to grind away at Smart Blonde. As the two ladies tussled for attention down the lane, Fanci Candi finally got her act together but it was much too late as Smart Blonde let it all hang out, outkicking Sexy Sheri to the wire with the favoured Fancy Candi settling in third position. Fittingly, Red With Guilt was up for fourth to complete the Superfecta.

If you were watching on Easter Sunday, then you'll have caught Lori's Bunny hopping to a win at 9-2 in the opener. Loiselle was quick to point out the Easter hunch bet as David Garcia found the wire with the bay filly by Swampster out of Funny Bunny. This is one race where I wish I had put all my eggs in one basket.

This week's edition of the Woodbine Watch List has several new additions. The best non-winning performance of the week comes from Chantal Sutherland and Caledon Cat. It was the tenth race on Saturday's card and Caledon Cat languished lazily early on contentedly sitting tenth at the top of the stretch before pouncing at the wire to finish third behind Wild Diamond and Trevon’s Glory. An extra furlong could see this cat nip a win next time out.

Poor puns aside, another horse that looked great was Montrose Avenue. The favourite, ridden by Emma-Jayne Wilson, forgot to leave the gate but Wilson calmly held his run making a late move to finish fifth. The result was a lot closer than it appears on paper as he was beaten a head, 3/4, 3/4, and a neck. The strong gallop out suggests the favourite will win at next asking, hopefully at better odds than 4-5.

Our first return starter on the Woodbine Watch List makes a quick trip back to the track. Dick Whittington jumps from his third place finish in a 5F $10K claimer up to a $20K claimer but gets added distance going 6 1/2F. An 11-1 shot last time looks in tough spot but we know from the chart that he finished strongly. Here is the official entry for Friday's fourth race.

More than a few HorsePlayer Interactive customers lined their pockets this past week as exactor payouts were out of control. I'm an exactor better trying to graduate to the Pick 4 scene but with payouts like $272.30, $305.60, 591.80 and 273.40 over the course of three days of racing, maybe I should just keep it simple. Those of you that bet superfectas had a shot at $12,810.55 and $27,596.05 on your dollar wager. Details and links to the charts are in the Scribd document below.

Finally, today is my birthday. Thank you to all the well wishers on Facebook and Twitter! I'm getting old but not as old as the Queen's Plate which celebrates its 150th birthday this year. Yikes!
